Frequently Asked Questions

What clothes should we wear?

Wear clothing that reflects your personality and style, whether formal or casual. Avoid busy prints and patterns as they distract from the most important part of the portrait - you! Our studio backgrounds are plain in colour so most colours are fine. You’re welcome to bring a couple of changes of clothes and colours to give a bit of variety and you may wish to co-ordinate your colours with others in the photos to keep things simple. Make-up and jewellery are welcome, although lots of jewellery can be distracting. If in doubt, bring it along and we can decide before the photo session begins. Shoes can be worn in the photo session, so they should compliment your clothing just in case. We’re also happy to remove any minor scratches, bumps & bruises on your children at no extra cost. It always seems to happen that these appear just before a photo shoot!

What to expect during your portrait session.

Your photo session will take around an hour, but we are not rushed for time. If it takes a little longer to get into things, that’s absolutely fine. I aim to make the session fun for children and adults alike, and encourage involvement and participation from parents and older kids. I love to engage the children in play, keeping the poses to a minimum and allowing them to feel comfortable. The best photos are natural, interactive, and reflect your child’s unique character. We try not to use the phrase “smile” or “say cheese.” This guarantees silly grins & scrunched up faces. During the session, if you’re in the shot too, be sure to keep your eyes to me - sometimes the perfect expression can happen quickly & mum or dad is looking anxiously at the kids instead of at the camera.

Can other family members come along?

IWe would love the opportunity to photograph other members of your family, however please discuss this with us prior to your photo session so we can ensure we allocate enough time if there are going to be more people involved. Our studio is a boutique residential studio, with limited space. To minimise distractions we ask that you only bring those who are to be photographed to the studio. If you wish to have a family pet included, please advise us in advance. We also have pets at our home and as such the studio may not be suitable and we may suggest an alternative location.

What if my child/ren is sick?

If your children are sick, please let us know as soon as possible as we would prefer to reschedule where possible. Not only will they not be in the mood for a photo session, but we also have other clients including newborn babies that we need to be mindful of. If I myself fall sick, I may have to reschedule many sessions.

When will our photos be ready?

Each image from your session is individually edited and processed in Photoshop. We aim to have the images from your session made available to you within 3 weeks from the portrait session. During peak times such as our wedding season January till April, this time may be a little longer. We will advise you at the end of your session./p>

How long will our portrait session take?

Standard portrait sessions including maternity sessions usually take around an hour. For newborn sessions I allow up to 2-3 hours, factoring in feeding and settling etc.

What if it rains and we have an outdoor session scheduled?

If the weather is less than desirable, we will look at rescheduling your session where there are kids involved. Engagement or couples portrait sessions, we may mutually agree to go ahead with some dramatic rain photos.

What sort of albums do you offer?

We exclusively offer luxury Queensberry albums, handmade right here in New Zealand.

What is your payment policy?

A 50% retainer deposit is paid to confirm your booking and the balance of your photography collection is due the day of your session. You can pay by cash, internet banking or by credit card online.
